Privacy notes
- Video end-to-end encryption is optional; turning it on disables features such as Familiar Faces, Alexa/Fire TV viewing, viewing on ring.com, shared users, Smart Alerts, third-party integrations and Video Search.6
- Familiar Faces (opt-in facial recognition, up to 50 faces, stored in Ring's cloud) began rolling out in Dec 2025; Ring says it is not available in Illinois, Texas or Portland, OR.1112
- Search Party (scans outdoor-camera video in the cloud for lost dogs) is on by default for outdoor cameras on a subscription plan, per The Verge.13
- Police can post Community Requests (via Axon) asking nearby users for footage; sharing is voluntary.14
- Ring says it requires a search warrant for content, gives no content in response to subpoenas, but may disclose video without consent in emergencies.8
